Gingivitis does not only affects the gums itself but the tissues and the bones below the gum line that supports the teeth. Swollen gums and bleeding gums are the most common and earliest signs of gums disease. There are several factors that causes gingivitis and gum disease to occur. More often swollen gums and gingivitis are triggered by plaque that produces acids causing gums to be inflamed.
Preventing swollen gums is the first step in preventing gingivitis and gum diseases. The best way to prevent swollen gums is to prevent the bacteria that keeps on growing in the mouth, brushing and flossing regularly is important in this prevention process.
